I am currently working as a Deputy Manager within a children's residential home in the St Helens area. I have worked in residential childcare for over 3 years now, with a small break to work with Adults as a Social Prescribing Link Worker across 2 GP surgeries.Whilst working I am currently completing a Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare and a Cognitive Behavioural Hypnotherapy Course. Both of which I aim to have completed by the end of the year.My long-term aim is to work with vulnerable people in a therapeutic and psychological sense, I have particular interests in play therapy, hypnotherapy and therapeutic parenting. I also have a keen interest in research that will benefit and protect vulnerable children and adults and I would love to participate in research projects that have this goal. I have experience in qualitative research surrounding relationships and traumatic births, and cross cultural family experiences of ADHD.I studied psychology BSc at the University of Liverpool from 2017-2020 in which my final project looked at new mothers' and fathers' experiences of birth and how this affected familial relationships. I carried out in-person semi-structured interviews and used thematic analysis to identify key themes. This project gave me such enjoyment and unexpected love for research. I completed my Masters degree at the university of York in Developmental Disorders and Clinical Practice. I completed modules in clinical practice, understanding developmental disorders, statistics and assessment and treatment of developmental disorders. My dissertation project was a qualitative cross cultural comparison between the UK and Kenya, looking at family experiences of ADHD and the impacts on family dynamics. Here I learned the importance of clinical skills and how developmental disorders need to be supported throughout the lifespan by professionals with patience and a wider understanding of their needs. The children that I currently work with who have come from backgrounds of trauma, abuse and neglect have given me an insight and experience that the usual 9-5 could not. The children I have worked with never fail to inspire me with the amount of love, passion and determination they have despite their difficult circumstances.
