As the Digital Discovery Librarian, I assist with the oversight, planning, and evaluation of the digital display of collections and services for the library with a focus on online resources and electronic databases. I collaborate with Digital Literacy Services, IT, Marketing and the Discovery and Cataloguing Librarian to troubleshoot digital library services related to catalogue maintenance, electronic resource loading, and the display of materials and internet resources. I assess opportunities to better expose and provide access to EPL’s collection and online resources on the web (SEO), enhancing and supporting the web interface to the library catalogue. I also troubleshoot digital library services related to catalogue maintenance, the online resource collection, and online resource authentication methods, and consult with vendors on new developments and enhancements to the discovery platform and online resources.As the Digital Discovery Librarian, I also manage the licensing of EPL's digital resources. I track and manage resource renewals, cancellations and newly added resources, and help manage the library’s EZProxy and SIP2 authentication methods.I also help with staff and customer education of EPL’s online resource collection through the development of training guides and materials for various resources.

As the ORC Coordinator, I was responsible for coordinating activities related to the Kindergarten to Grade 12 education sector under the terms of The Alberta Library's grant-in-aid from Alberta Education. The position was responsible for identifying, investigating, recommending, negotiating, implementing and administering license initiatives for the ORC. The position liaised with vendors, school jurisdictions, schools, and Alberta Education staff on access and technical issues; provided assistance and technical support to users, and monitored, analyzed, and communicated usage data. I also provided professional development training to K-12 teaching faculty and school library support staff in-person and through the creation of technical documentation.

As a research assistant to Dr. Mackey, I have been working with Dr. Mackey to secure permissions to use images in her recently published book "One Child Reading: My Auto-Bibliography." Dr. Mackey's book chronicles her path from child to adult reader, including images from various books, games, magazines, serials, report cards, and even Valentine's Day cards. My job on this project was to determine who was the owner/publisher of the various images and secure permission to use these images in Dr. Mackey's book. Many of the images came from books from Dr. Mackey's childhood, and as such, many of the original publishing houses that own the images are now defunct. I spent much time researching these companies to find out who would currently own the image rights (quite the treasure hunt!).Now that Dr. Mackey's book has been published, I am working with Dr. Mackey and her team to secure permissions for videos that will act as supplementary material to Dr. Mackey's book. In this position, I helped to edit and format papers focused on Social Studies Education in North America before publication. As a research assistant to Dr. Louanne Keenan, I worked with Dr. Keenan on the YMCA Homelessness Prevention Project. As part of this project, I worked out of the YMCA Downtown Housing facility, interviewing staff about the Downtown Housing facility and the kind of services it provides. I also worked with and observed the residents there in an attempt to define the type of housing to vulnerable populations the facility provides. This information was then provided to various stakeholders in an attempt to better understand what services are needed for the homeless population in Edmonton.

As a research to Dr. Michael McNally, I worked with Dr. McNally on his "YouTube as a Black Box" research study. The study looked at YouTube's (Google's) search algorithm in an attempt to determine what type of mental health informational videos the website's search function yields.Each week, I would document the mental health videos that were returned when using specific search terms related to mental health. I then assisted Dr. McNally and Dr. Tami Oliphant is using qualitative and quantitative research methods to analyze the full set of results. I presented this paper with Dr. McNally at the Canadian Sociological Association Conference, Congress of the Humanities and Social Sciences 2013.
