Collaborative Futures, Glasgow’s Future Citizens in 2030, was a collaborative research and strategy project between Glasgow School of Art’s Innovation School and Glasgow City Council’s Centre for Civic Innovation.The project encompassed:• Design and facilitation of user research and engagement workshops with citizens and GlasgowCity Council (GCC) employees• Analysis and Synthesis of research into key themes and insights.• Presentation of insights and design recommendations to GCC executives.• Documentation of research and the project process.

Alongside my studies at Konstfack in Stockholm, I was a Design Research Assistant at FOLKFORM, a design studio that takes a craft-based design approach to challenge the value of objects.

I worked as a studio assistant at Watergaw ceramics, making ceramic jewellery, handbuilt and thrown decorative objects and serving customers in the studio shop.

Working as part of the sales team, I wrote project proposals for the hire of specialist deck machinery by identifying the technical requirements of projects, and suitable, available units for hire within the time frame required.

I undertook a project to digitalise the system of ordering stock components, working alongside suppliers, the goods inward manager, storeman and buyers. I also worked as part of the marketing team, using my graphic design skills to help design new corporate materials. I also ran several social media campaigns.

Shadowing the head of children’s knit design, I learned about her design process and made up sample pieces from her patterns. I also worked in production, doing the finishing touches to hand knit children’s wear, which included sewing up seams, embroidery, making and attaching tassels, stitching on buttons and labels, as well as washing and pressing the garments.As well as this I took responsibility for production of the Johnstons of Elgin up-cycling range, which is sold in the woollen mill shop. This involved me collecting rejected garments from around the factory, and saving the fabric without imperfections. I would then sort the fabrics by the type of material and colours to produce kits such as ‘make your own cushion cover’ kits.

After high school, I took a gap year where I interned in the Research and Development department of ACE Winches, Aberdeen. I was involved in the project coordination of two large first time manufacturing projects, as well as an internal systems and procedures project. I was tasked with reviewing the documented company procedures and processes by talking with people and revising process maps to reflect current working practices. With this information, I was able to suggest how processes could be streamlined and how departments could adopt more efficient working practices.
