Bethany is the fresh face of cardiac patients and a fierce advocate for heart screenings for all children to end thousands of unnecessary deaths yearly. As a bionic model, public speaker, patient-to-patient support proponent and moderator, and social media content creator, she is using her skills to turn the tide of cardiac care for our young. Fueled by gratitude, Bethany began HeartCharged with three areas of focus: advocacy to have all children’s hearts screened; community of support and understanding among fellow heartcharged warriors; and demonstration leading to inspiration of living fully and gratefully with a serious illness.Bethany was diagnosed in high school with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM). Usually cardiomyopathies are not detected and diagnosed especially in young people because there are no, or easily dismissible, symptoms. As such they kill thousands of unsuspecting children in the USA alone yearly making them the #1 killer of student athletes and the #1 cause of death on school sites leaving in their wake misery and unbelief as seemingly healthy children drop dead on athletic fields.Bethany is bionic since 2018 when she had a defibrillator implanted due to the severity of her condition. She has chosen to go beyond accepting and move onto flaunting her implanted device and the protrusion and scars that accompany this death-defying device. Her example is being heralded as instrumental in helping others facing medically-necessary physical changes do the same. Gracefully reconciling a life of contrasts as she both faces death and takes on life, Bethany has captured that same essence on her Instagram page, The Jolt @heartcharged. There the audience will find a mix of posts featuring bulges and beauty, humor and facts, outreach and introspection, inspiration and information, self and others, red days and blue days, even swimsuits and scars, all infused with hope and grounded in reality.
