About Beth Mathews
I am a Secretary of the Interior Qualified Archaeologist with 18 years of cultural resource management experience across the Northwest. In 2018 I founded Antiquity Consulting to assist clients in the southern Puget Sound and southwestern Washington. In my position as CEO, historian, and archaeologist at Antiquity, I have the privelege of helping local governments, private land owners, Tribes, and agencies with their cultural resource compliance needs, while exploring the past of this incredible place we call Washington.I began my archaeological career at the waterlogged Mud Bay site in Olympia, WA, and due to this site’s remarkable preservation I developed interests in paleoethnobotany and ancient landscapes. Since then I have had the pleasure of working on a plethora of site types, including historic farmsteads and homesteads, coastal shell middens and clam gardens, Gold Rush encampments, early Holocene camps, pithouse villages, waterlogged sites, historic districts, precontact and historic rock cairns, WWII military training camps, and other vernacular historic properties. My current personal research interests include Washington women's history, in particular women's homesteading history, precontact settlement patterns, and cultural resource management protocols.

Her experience in cultural resource management throughout the Northwest impressed upon her the need to improve quality of archaeological and historical research in the southern Puget Sound, and improve equity in the field of cultural resource management.Antiquity is uniquely qualified to survey, inventory, and assess impacts to cultural resources due to our staff’s long and diverse history of conducting intensive historical and archaeological research in Washington. Located in Tumwater, we can quickly respond to local cultural resource concerns throughout western Washington. Our location supports easy access to local archival materials, meetings with local stakeholders and consulting parties, and fieldwork tasks.We are local experts in Thurston, Mason, Grays Harbor, Lewis, Cowlitz, and Pierce County history, archaeology, and resource management protocols.
