I competed at national level as a gymnast before gaining a BA (Hons) in Dance from The University of Liverpool. With most dance roles asking me to tumble, I re-trained in contemporary circus with The Generating Company and had a full career as a performer working internationally for over 15 years. I have performed as an acrobat, aerialist, dancer and actress in theatre, film & television, from panto to cruise ship, TV dramas and feature films, and was part of the original cast of Batman Live World Arena Tour. As a freelance choreographer and assistant, I have had roles within both English National Ballet and Rambert Youth Companies; as well as being a Lead Dance Artist for Create (Arts) Ltd. Ten years into my professional life I gained an MA in Acting from The Royal Central School of Speech and Drama. This not only changed how I viewed the transformative benefits of theatre and how I approach my work as a choreographer. But also, how I valued my own multi-disciplinary skills and experience in terms of my future contribution to the Arts and Entertainment industry. I specialise in contemporary dance. My athletic background in circus influences the strength and power behind a lot of my movement style. I love the bizarre and the bold, the weird and unexpected. One of the most sublime things for me, when directing and leading workshops in dance and choreography, is to find that spine-tingling moment in a performer/participant’s movement, when they are moving with pure instinct and joy, and us in the room, are suddenly jolted out of our present and completely moved. I cry a lot in workshops! I find it awe inspiring the creative capabilities we all have, and the profound impact this can have on ourselves and our society when they are accessed.
