As a graphic designer with a degree in journalism, I see myself a communications designer. Design is the language I use to intrigue the audience, tell the story and call the reader to action. Those famous "Five Ws" of journalism continue to be the foundation every project for me — from the Who, What and Why of the client/audience relationship and primary messaging to the How, Where and When that determine the media and formats that will carry the messages.Whether it is physician recruitment, a natural sweetener or little plastic bottles, I've always enjoyed working with clients who are highly vested in their own work. When the client has a meaningful story to tell, the design decisions I make become more important, more valuable.Providing the audience with the information they need in the way they wish to receive it is paramount, so, while using print and traditional media as the vehicle for visual branding and messaging has been the core of my work, I am expanding my skills to include digital design with a focus on comprehensive brand integration and great user experience.View my portfolio at bethdaubel.wordpress.com/Design Skills:Creative StrategyArt DirectionGraphic DesignConcept DevelopmentTypographyAdvertisingBrochuresCollateralDirect MailProposal DesignPresentationsLogo DesignTrade show graphicsCorporate IdentityPrint ProductionBusiness-to-business marketingRecruitment marketingHealthcare marketingCorporate BrandingBranding & IdentityGeneral Skills:Communication skillsOrganization skillsTime Management skillsProject ManagementTeam workCross-team CollaborationVendor relationship managementProblem solving / Critical thinkingCustomer/Audience-focusedTechnical Skills:Adobe Creative SuiteInDesignIllustratorPhotoshopAcrobatMuseMicrosoft PowerpointMicrosoft WordMicrosoft ExcelMicrosoft Office SuiteMac OSXActively seeking a position as an art director or graphic designer with a corporation, institution or agency.

"Work That Matters" has been more than just a tag line at MediaCross and supporting clients whose work I find inherently valuable makes for a very fulfilling job.Recruitment clients have included Military Sealift Command and the U.S. Army Reserve Medical Corps. As organizations with missions that directly impact our county's service members, their recruitment needs take on a greater purpose, as do the ad campaigns, collateral, event displays and support materials we've created for them. B2B clients were truly the cornerstone of MediaCross and continue to be a meaningful part of the client mix. Alpha Packaing has a special place in my heart as I've worked one their marketing projects for the better part of 17 years. Ad campaigns, direct mail projects, trade show booths and support materials position Alpha as the industry leader they've grown to be.Regional healthcare institutions such as Perry County Hospital and Audrain Medical Center face tough competition from the big healthcare systems. We helped them highlight their strengths and challenge misperceptions with great stories and on-target visuals despite tight budgets.
There's always something interesting going on with AAF Ad Club St. Louis. I had been attending Ad Club events since 2003, became a member a couple of years later and then starting giving my time by helping at events and then becoming a board member.Co-chaired Art Uncorked (2009-2010)After working on the committee for Art & Soul, I stepped up to co-chair the revamped Art Uncorked with my co-chair, Kathy McGuire-Mullins, on this silent art auction and wine tasting. We started with in-demand locations such as Atomic Cowboy, Bridge Tap House & Wine Bar, arranged for wine tastings as well as food and music. I designed the posters, postcards, etc. but most importantly, we convinced members to create and donate art and then build excitement among members their friends to attend the event. Also: • Judged submissions for Ad Club scholarship for student members• Creative Symposium committee 2011

St. Louis Design Week is a week-long celebration of all things design. "DRIVE: the intersection of design and business" was a business symposium featuring entrepreneurs who share how they used design to fuel their business success. As the Ad Club's volunteer for Design Week, I led the effort in coordinating everything from speakers, schedules, signage and more details than I can recall!Seth Burgett shared the story of the invention and the marketing of Yurbuds; Cheree Berry showed us how a passion could become a profession with her invitation and stationery company Cheree Berry Papers; and Doug Powell demonstrated that design really can solve problems with his HealthSimple carb counting tool for kids with Type1 diabetes.

I had the chance to lend a hand to the team at Pure (erstwhile sister company to MediaCross) and stretch myself on some interesting projects that fell outside the MediaCross focus. One of the most challenging was marketing the Missouri State Fair in both 2010 and 2011. From posters to pump toppers, brochures to billboards, truck signage to print ads, the MoSF and it's myriad of events needed big promotion! I'm proud to say that the materials not only looked great but the vast amount of information was also well organized and easy to read.

It was perhaps the heyday for print newsletters and I was neck deep in corporate newsletters for everyone from the Sisters of Mercy to Anheuser-Busch. Before digital printing, tight budgets meant two-color printing and that meant a designer had to get creative to keep things interesting for the reader. It was also likely the peak for print annual reports with their dual purpose format. The front of the book was branding and emotion but the back of the book was all business — columns of perfectly aligned numbers as far as the eye could see.

My love for magazines was already well established before I was introduced to Whittle Communications but it was there that the importance of setting the perfect visual tone at both a macro and micro level became real for me.I completed three sessions with the "Special Report" magazine group where I shadowed the design staff, assisted in daily activities/meetings and even designed a couple of article layouts. I got a close up look at the skills needed for the staff to balance their storyteller souls with the demands of production and press deadlines.Whittle Communications published special interest magazines where each publication had either a single advertiser or one advertiser per product category. Whittle created publications with highly-desirable audiences but advertisers had no editorial influence. These were interesting and educational times in the early years of "guerilla marketing"!
