Crime Gun Analyst
Current• Compiles, analyzes and interprets crime series linked by Integrated Ballistics Identification System (IBIS) correlation for patterns, trends and identification of known and repeat offenders. • Collaborates with members of OPD Intel Cell to combine street officers’ historical and tactical knowledge of historical and emerging area crime trends with patterns in associated series.• Produces complex reports identifying common persons of interest, vehicles, gang turfs, weapons, and methods of operations to aid in enforcement and development of strategies and tactics to effectively prevent further crimes.• Uses complex databases including CRIMS, LEAP, Cal-Photo and LRMS, Geographic Information Systems (GIS) software, desktop publishing and word processing programs to develop comprehensive products with high quality graphic layout and design support.• Fosters and expands OPD’s crime analysis network through active participation and collaboration with the Bay Area Crime and Intelligence Analyst Association, enhancing strategic law enforcement capabilities for the entire Bay Area region.• Without prior knowledge of crime analysis common practices, successfully developed requirements, systems and products for the Integrated Ballistics Identification System (IBIS) Analyst position for Oakland PD based on military intelligence skills and experiences and daily and ongoing intelligence requirements. • Committed to obtaining California state crime analyst certification within 12 months of appointment to current position.• Actively seeks opportunities for training and continuing education to maintain current understanding of intelligence and crime analysis industry best practices.
