It is my goal to foster the love of reading with every child and their families. As a sixteen year veteran educator, face-to-face and virtual, I have been working to accomplish this goal using my Reading Specialist certification, through extensive one-on-one tutoring, and acting as an ambassador between students, educators, and the children’s literary world.|VETERAN EDUCATOR|. I have ignited the love of reading in thousands of students and families over my career. I know when I have succeeded in creating a lifelong reader the moment they finish their first book independently and exclaim, “I just read that by myself!” Through mastering the art of differentiation I have been able to impact every student.|CERTIFIED READING SPECIALIST| I have a Masters of Education with a specialization in K-12 Literacy. This specialization has informed the creation of my teaching philosophy. My pedagogy is underpinned by an understanding of how children’s brains process print and the journey it takes for a child to gain success with reading.|MASTER TUTOR|. I have five certifications for teaching students of all age levels. As founder of Red Apple Tutoring, I have been independently tutoring for 16 years in all subject areas for students age preschool through high school. I successfully assess each student to find areas of need and constantly monitor. Communication with students and families is my strength and I constantly monitor progress and growth.|AMATEUR LIBRARIAN| I love books. I love everything about books—even the smell. I established a neighborhood library. I wanted my neighborhood children and their families to have access to books, especially when the public library was closed due to COVID. I am an ambassador to the children’s literature community. Through my relationships with authors and illustrators I have brought books to life for the children at school and at home. I believe the library can be a force for equality in education.
