A virtual assistant for overstretched and underfunded marketing functions in schools!

A wonderful year working with #TeamHaem in the lab as well as supporting the Digital Transformation Team pulling together baseline data prior to the implementation of new software into Derriford’s ED and supporting the ED during the ‘go live’.

It was wonderful to dip a toe in the water of the world of Independent Schools once more. I was delighted to be able to help shape the future of Plymouth College, working alongside a fabulous team, giving a warm welcome to prospective families and telling the world of the wonderful things that are happening both in and out of the classrooms, virtually and 'IRL'!Joining the school at the start of a global pandemic was not, perhaps, the easiest to things to take on but it threw up some new challenges that I could really get my teeth into; virtual open events on Zoom, school tours via Skype, the importance of digital marketing and engagement to online platforms like never before. However it gave the school and me a great new perspective on how we market ourselves as well as how we can welcome families to the community whether that's on-line or in person (socially distanced, of course!).

I joined the Finance Department at RCHT in the Costings Teams. Responsible for analysing all patient level information for all acute services with the Trust, producing monthly, quarterly and annual reports on costs. Within this I conducted account reconciliation and variance analysis, ensured all data received from each service was as accurate as possible (investigating any data quality issues and developed good working relationships with all service leads to gain an understanding to the service provided and advise how it may be delivered more efficiently.I was part of the award winning team than developed a board game for everyone in the trust to be able to understand how costing works and how we attribute costs right down to individual patient level.

I was responsible for all aspects of marketing for the school, having set up the department from scratch as none existed before.I produced the annual marketing plan in line with the school’s development strategy, along with budgetary forecast and control. I managed all aspects of the school’s digital marketing including website, social media (including paid content) and blogs and set up a digital content calendar and utilised SEO keywords when writing content. In 2015 I was tasked with creating a new website for the school which I managed from pitch to launch.The need for internal marketing is often overlooked but crucial in retention of pupils as well as enhancing the all important 'Word of Mouth' recommendations. As part of this I introduced the school’s weekly dynamic e-newsletters to improve our internal communications.My creative side meant I was able to produce photography, videography, art and graphics using Adobe Creative Cloud (especially Photoshop, Lightroom, InDesign, Illustrator, Premiere Pro and After Effects) for effective advertising and promotional merchandise both digitally and in print. I coordinated and participated in promotional activities and trade shows including design and production of our exhibition stands as well as production of animated displays and arranged for the Headmaster to speak at national and local events.I grew and maintained good contacts within the media to increase press coverage as well as strong negotiation skills to achieve the best rates for printed advertisements and wrote and distributed all press releases.It is imperative that you continue to monitor the environment that you are working in and I produced surveys to aid research (both quantitative as well as qualitative) from prospective and current parents to help direct future marketing activities as well as conducted regular audits of both admissions & marketing activities.I analysed third party data (e.g. GA) to further understand how we were performing.
