Santa Cruz, California

Taught a 10-week University-level technology lab, Tech Essentials at UC Santa Cruz, aimed at introducing sociology students to technologies that could help them manage self-designed social justice projects and non-profit organizations. Also worked in a team of fellows to improve GIIP program structure, class curriculum, and manage a student-led social entrepreneurship and information technology program.

Kilimanjaro, Tanzania

In collaboration with the Moshi Institute of Technology and the GIIP program at UC Santa Cruz, I designed and implemented a technology workshop for rural non-profit organizations in the Kilimanjaro Region of Tanzania. The workshop provided introductory skills in computer and internet basics and how technology can support the growth and impact of local non profit organizations in this region. I trained 120 people over 6 weeks. Project duties included outreach and advertising, designing and teaching curriculum, hired support staff and translators, organizing lunch and managing cooks, soliciting and receiving funding, evaluating and improving the program sustainability, keeping a budget and producing reports, and forming partnerships. I later provided mentorship for other GIIP program interns.
