I shepherd a dozen nonfiction titles per year through the editing and production process—a position that uniquely incorporates my passions for working with written words, encouraging people to get outside, and making detailed to-do lists.

As part of the Certificate in Editing program, I teach Applied Editing & Practicum, which covers developmental editing and the practical aspects of a career working with words.

I help writers navigate the terrain between "idea"​ and "published book."​ I specialize in collaborative writing and ghostwriting for nonfiction, and developmental editing for fiction and nonfiction manuscripts. I also write book proposals and marketing copy and provide other support as needed through the traditional and self-publishing process. I speak at dozens of conferences, festivals, libraries, and literary events every year.

Developed and launched a new menu of author marketing services, and oversaw partner and contract relationships to provide direct marketing support for individuals. Created marketing and branding strategies; wrote marketing copy; reviewed and edited proposals, manuscripts, websites, and other client material. Provided mentoring and personal feedback through phone consultations and written reports. Wrote white papers and blog content.

• Implemented first social media strategy for the local chapter of the American Red Cross, developing chapter presences on Facebook, Twitter, Flickr, and LinkedIn. Monitored sites and updated daily. Provided monthly statistics to track growth. • Served as on-call Public Affairs Officer: wrote press releases, talking points, responded as Red Cross spokesperson to press inquiries, including TV and radio interviews. • Managed the creation of a printed newsletter distributed to volunteers and donors. Wrote and edited client and volunteer profiles, event recaps, and other stories as needed.

• Marketed and negotiated the sale of new books to top publishing houses in the United States and the United Kingdom.• Monitored trends in publishing and public interest, advising a regular client base of active authors. • Provided concept and editorial support for authors in the preparation of proposals. • Monitored the performance of publishers/producers in meeting their contractual obligations to clients, including, but not limited to, financial and marketing commitments.

• As an independent contractor, edited corporate training company’s sales/training materials and two self-published books. Revised for content, structure, and readability standards. • Wrote and developed content for on-line interactive training programs sold to universities and corporations across the United States.• Taught workshops in business writing and basic computer skills (Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook) for outside clients.

Created, developed, and managed communication projects. Responsibilities included writing, editing, staff and budget management, author recruitment, setting and meeting deadlines, strategic planning, and negotiating with external sources.
