As the founder and content manager of Good Content, I help mission-driven companies reach their content marketing goals using data, proven marketing strategies and great storytelling. Some days, I'm writing a blog post about AI in supply chains for a blue chip tech company and an email newsletter for a financial SaaS product. Other days, I'm creating an SEO-driven content strategy for a national distribution company, assigning purpose-driven content to a team of freelancers and drilling down into the data for a company in the medical device industry. I started writing more than 15 years ago as a reporter at a smalltown newspaper. How did I become a content marketing strategist for such complex industries? My career path took many twists and turns, from the newsroom to corporate communications, public relations and even to the front of a business school classroom. In 2013, I launched my own writing contractor business, BLH Writing Solutions, spent two years gaining inbound marketing and SEO skills at a marketing agency and returned to freelance work in 2020 with Good Content, searching for new writing challenges.In each role, I've tried to foster my sense of curiosity. I jump at the chance to learn new things. It's a habit that's given me a knack for distilling highly technical topics into engaging and accessible stories. I'm lucky to get the opportunity to tell interesting stories every day as a part of so many great teams.My approach is to work collaboratively with clients, web designers, and UX experts in a long-term partnership to define the audience, refine the message, set priorities, and streamline the content production process. I leverage my background in journalism, public relations, communications, and inbound marketing to create SEO-optimized content that supports the company's sense of purpose and goals. Content shouldn't just check the boxes; it should make an impact. My goal is to bring sanity and creativity to the content process, while ensuring the content tells a great story to the right people on the best platform. To me, storytelling isn't a marketing buzzword, it's a personal passion. As the producer and host of the live storytelling show, Long Story Short, I coach both writers and storytellers of all levels. I bring those skills to all my clients, whether crafting brand stories or leveling up a team of writers. I love working with companies where storytelling is a priority because stories make your message memorable, whether in business, politics or your personal life.
