I was an IAEM Certified Emergency Manager with 17 years of experience in emergency management. My experience includes real world response experience such as Hurricanes Charley, Frances, Jeanne, Wilma, Irma and the Groundhog Day tornadoes. While in law enforcement, I also responded to Homestead following Hurricane Andrew as part of law enforcement mutual aid. I have extensive professional planning experience in coordinating and developing plans such as NIMS-compliant Comprehensive Emergency Management Plans, Hazard Specific Annexes, Continuity of Operations Plans, Post Disaster Economic Redevelopment Plans, and Post-Disaster Redevelopment Plans. I was also a researcher and contributor to the State of Florida's guidebook "Post-Disaster Redevelopment Planning: A Guide for Florida Communities" and its addendum "Post-Disaster Redevelopment Planning: Addressing Adaptation During Long-Term Recovery" which specifically addresses sea level rise issues. I have been an invited speaker and instructor to the Governor's Hurricane Conference and the Florida Emergency Preparedness Association. My other contributions to emergency management have included chairing the Emergency Management Working Group of the Southeast Regional Domestic Security Taskforce (SERDSTF) as well as a member of the State Working Group for Domestic Security. I am also a certified FEMA-trained trainer for Homeland Security for Local Governments. I have been a design team member for local and regional exercises, such as the Treasure Coast Local Emergency Planning Committee's multi-county hazardous materials incident exercise and the SERDSTF's regional exercises.
