CurrentBeth Shapiro's luminous paintings draw from the inspiration and explorations of abstract expressionism and color field paintings, with a hint of Dada and Minimalism as influences. One can see the influence of such early abstractionists as Wassily Kandinsky and Robert Delaunay as well as mid-20th century artists such as Mark Rothko, Helen Frankenthaler, Morris Louis, and Jackson Pollack. Working with acrylic paints and glazes, Beth’s work draws the viewer into a realm of color, form, shape, light, texture and surface, inviting personal interpretations, spiritual and emotional responses.Beth has expanded her artistic enterprise to create custom Ketubahs (Jewish marriage contract). Beth has created one-of-a-kind custom ketubahs for couples, collaborating with them to create designs that incorporate meaningful symbols of each couple's relationship within the design of their ketubah. Beth Shapiro earned her B.F.A. in Painting at Texas State University-San Marcos in 2008. She had her first solo show in San Antonio in 2009 and has exhibited her work across Texas and on the East Coast. Beth grew up in New York and had a successful 15-year career in marketing communications before leaving the corporate world in the late 1990’s to raise her family. While her children were small she began going to art school part time, eventually earning her degree. She currently resides in Austin, TX.
