The Institute for Citizens & Scholars cultivates talent, ideas, and networks that develop young people as empowered, lifelong citizens.We define empowered citizens as civically well-informed, productively engaged for the common good, and committed to democracy. Civically well-informed means young people understand our government, our history, and the difference between fact and opinion. Productively engaged means these young people build common ground with others and take an active role in local and national decision-making. Committed means they are working to improve trust in institutions and each other and are willing to do the hard work to strengthen democracy.

With seven libraries across three campuses and thousands of UB students, faculty, and other researchers visiting each day, the University at Buffalo Libraries strives to be a welcoming and inclusive place to share ideas, collaborate with peers, and explore new opportunities for innovative research and lifelong learning.The UB Poetry Collection is the library of record for 20th- and 21st-century poetry in English. Founded in 1937 by Charles Abbott, the Poetry Collection now holds one of the world’s largest collections of poetry first editions and other titles, little literary magazines, broadsides and anthologies; a substantial collection of artworks; and more than 150 archives and manuscript collections from a wide range of poets, presses, magazines and organizations.

With 30 departments, 16 academic programs, and 23 centers and institutes, the College offers more academic options than any other unit on campus.

• Managed all fundraising efforts for the Parents Fund, making up $1.7m of the Annual Fund dollars raised • Cultivated, solicited, and stewarded a portfolio of high-level Parents Fund donors utilizing Blackbaud CRM systems • Oversaw parent involvement in Kent’s Giving Day, accomplishing a 93% increase in parent donors, and more than tripling the previous parent donation total to bring in $104,000 from parents in 24 hours • Developed and coordinated parent engagement, cultivation, and stewardship events• Drafted appeal letters and all parent communications, including international outreach and coordination of dissemination of communications and translations by partnering with volunteers in China, Taiwan, and Korea • Identified major gift prospects among current parents and parents of alumni• Oversaw the Senior Parent Gift, including identifying gift initiative, handling all communications and outreach• Recruited and supported parent volunteers • Traveled throughout New England, as well as Colorado and the West Coast to meet with parents and solicit gifts

University Advancement• Identify, qualify, cultivate, solicit, and steward donors to the university• Maintain a portfolio of 100 qualified prospect households through extensive use of The Raiser’s Edge database, Blackbaud CRM systems, Moves Management, and internal collaboration processes• Achieve specific visit and outreach goals monthly• Staff major development events both on campus and serve as point of contact in the New York City metro area• Project management of the Annual Giving Team’s “1856 Minute Challenge” • Contribute to reports, development collateral, and major gifts proposals Program Leadership• Serve as director for St. Lawrence University’s NYC Semester Program, through which students live in New York and participate in full-time internships in wide-ranging fields• Coach students of diverse backgrounds, including international students regarding U.S. hiring practices and first generation college students • Focus on recruitment of students of diverse backgrounds to ensure that the NYC Program serves a range of students from various backgrounds and majors • Apply appropriate career coaching methods while developing a full professional development curriculum • Mentor new groups of students each semester, building relationships and rapport quickly in order to best address students’ needs, areas of interest, and areas in need of growth, advise them about opportunities facilitate internship placements • Work closely with the NYC Program faculty director to support and participate in program activities • Create programs to serve students as they begin their careers• Offer guidance, editorial oversight, and career coaching for students and young alumni in all aspects of job application processes • Partner with on-campus and external stakeholders to identify the skill sets and attributes that make St. Lawrence students top candidates for internships, co-ops, and entry level positions

A graduate of St. Lawrence University with a B.A. in Writing and Political Science, and the University of Vermont with an M.A. in English Literature, Beth manages various Community Programs at the Aspen Institute. Aspen Community Programs include: the McCloskey Speaker Series, New Views Documentaries, the High School Great Ideas Seminar, the Community Great Ideas Seminar, Great Books, Great Decisions, the Great Conversation: Engaging Young Aspen, and the Fireside Chat series. Beth came to the Aspen Institute with experience executing high-level events in Aspen including VIP aspects of World Cup Skiing Races, event marketing for Winter X-Games sponsors, and many major nonprofit galas. She guides visually impaired skiers, and has volunteered for the Disabled Veterans Winter Sports Clinic since 2004. As a leader for Putney Student Travel, Beth spent the summer of 2008 leading a group of high school students on various community service projects in Klukwan, Alaska. Beth is a member of the Roaring Fork Leadership Class of 2011.

Challenge Aspen is dedicated to impacting lives by presenting meaningful recreational, educational and cultural experiences to individuals faced with cognitive or physical challenges.

-Oversaw Dean’s schedule including planning and hosting community and college-wide events-Attended Advisory Board meetings, Board of Trustee meetings, and other conferences as requested to take minutes and ensure that all major and minor details were attended to-Scheduled all classroom usage including public and non-profit groups’ room rentals-Organized gallery exhibits and openings, collecting art, contacting artists, selling pieces, and creating labels used to identify works, artists, and prices-Ordered food, managed caterers, and maintained budgets for public events and campus meetings- Campus coordinator for course listing catalog production- one fully detailed class schedule produced each semester-Managed administrative staff workloads on course listing tasks including distribution of data input, and delegation of editing duties-Marketing coordinator for Aspen Campus-Member of multiple committees including: Institutional Leadership Team, Campus Effectiveness Team, and the Marketing Committee-Became extremely proficient using Microsoft Office, Excel, and Microsoft Outlook operating systems
