• Develop and manage all messaging and communications for binational commission representing eight states and two provinces in the Great Lakes basin. Draft all commission news releases, newsletters, annual reports and other communications products. Ensure any other copy produced by commission is free of errors in grammar and punctuation and adheres to commission’s style guide and readability standards.• Serve as in-house communications strategist, developing and executing communications plans for a staff of 25 working on more than 35 projects. Develop and maintain project communications guidance for staff including style guides, service menus and sample work products. • Expand online presence, including launching modern, user-friendly website and daily newsletter on Great Lakes issues serving thousands of stakeholders across the region. Manage social media accounts for commission and associated projects.• Plan and manage annual meetings for 30-40 commissioners and hundreds of members of the public in rotating locations across the Great Lakes basin. Plan and manage annual meeting in Washington, D.C. including organizing lobbying visits to Congressional offices and coordinating breakfast reception featuring dozens of members of Congress.• Work with advocacy program to reach local, state and national elected officials with approved messaging about Great Lakes priorities. • Build relationships with and pitch stories to regional general-interest and specialty media. Develop and maintain general and issue-specific media lists.
