Sustainability specialist with a multidisciplinary knowledge of data centres from a whole life cycle perspective. Her areas of expertise include life cycle assessment, circular buildings and construction, early implementation of sustainability strategies to improve data centre impact, technologies/design approaches to reduce scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions, corporate sustainability strategy, carbon accounting and net zero carbon commitments, and has experience in data centre energy and risk reduction workshops and assessments.Beth has a support role in implementing their corporate sustainability strategy and contributes to sustainability aspects of bids. Further work includes research and a collaborative approach to knowledge sharing. She is just completing a project called CEDaCI (Circular Economy for the Data Centre Industry), which has created tools (decision-making software, server reuse business strategies, improved materials recycling/reclamation technologies) to reduce waste, conserve resources and build a secure supply chain for EU Critical Raw Materials used in servers. The project philosophy is applicable to all buildings and sub-components, not just servers, and involved remote working with teams in Germany, France, and the Netherlands.She previously worked as a structural engineer on a wide variety of projects, from the early stages of concept design through to completion on site.Further to her work she was involved in the development of the EU Green Public Procurement (GPP) Criteria for Data Centres; BSI 50600-99-2: Information technology - Data centre facilities and infrastructures - Part 99-2- Recommended practices for environmental sustainability; completed a PhD on the life cycle environmental impact of data centres; and frequently publishes journal papers and book chapters.She is passionate about the environment and reducing our impact on the planet.
