As the knowledge management needs grew with the organisation I became the team leader, with three full-time direct reports and one part time assistant. Full responsibility for the candidate database and the two employees who entered candidate details for advertised roles, and 1.5 FTE knowledge management employees who researched articles and organisations, and administered surveys for the organisational development consultants, updated the database from various media. I also occasionally conducted search research for the executive search team, recruited for internal members of my team, maintained and upgraded the intranet and website, liaised with job-board suppliers, provided IT help-desk support, and coordinated occasional projects and regular reporting, HR metrics, as well as anything else that was deemed “KM”. The organisation downsized post-GFC, with my team being reduced to one employee, thereby removing the Team Leader aspect of the role.

Sheffield had decided that we needed to capitalise on new technologies, create better methods of sharing and disseminating information, analysing market data and a whole host of new activities. By default, I became the database expert, trainer and data analyst, mining our candidate database for quite a lot of HR metrics information, in particular, KPI information for our clients, breaking down time to place roles into component parts – advertising to interview, shortlist etc. Additionally, I began to maintain and manage our intranet.
