I have 40 years of professional experience in the sustainable materials management arena. I began working in what used to be referred to, in the late 70s, as "Pollution Prevention Pays." These days, we refer to to this as creating circularity with respect to the use of material resources. While the terminology is different the principles remain the same: regard "wastes" are misplaced resources and work to keep these resources in continuous use in ways that are environmentally preferable and economically viable. Formerly in the industrial by-products management arena, I transitioned to addressing post-consumer materials management with a focus on sustainable packaging and the use of policy tools to drive transition to a circular economy.
