• Led the growth of one of the largest departments in a $180 million non-profit organization. Reimagined the vision and strategic direction of the organization’s approach to pet advocacy, leading a major shift in both.
• Led the launch and evolution of the nationwide Pets for Life initiative, a cutting-edge social change program to help pet owners in underserved communities gain access to spay/neuter and other care services. Expanded.
• Directed the nation’s largest annual animal sheltering and rescue conference, growing attendance to over 2,000 and covering all event costs through sponsorship, registration, and exhibit fees.
• Launched national-level communications campaigns to help homeless pets, including a public service pet adoption campaign with the Ad Council, generating $224 million in donated media.
• Developed policy and educational campaigns to eliminate gas chamber euthanasia in animal shelters, increase non-lethal solutions for managing cat populations, and keep pets in their homes.
• Participated on field-related boards of directors, building strong relationships among colleagues and collaborating on joint national-level projects to further the animal protection movement.

• Spearheaded the launch of The Humane Society National Volunteer Center, the first broad-scale coordinated volunteer effort in the history of the organization to maximize volunteer engagement.
• Served as the key advisor to the section Vice President and managed all departmental staff, consultants, programs, and budget.
• Evolved programs and operations to increase efficiency and teamwork to reach departmental goals.

• Led the development of all messaging, publications, and web content for the Companion Animals team to ensure consistency and increase our reach with the public and sheltering professionals.
• Conducted local and national radio, print, and television interviews on pet-related issues.
• Provided guidance on volunteer management issues to animal welfare organizations around the world. Created and instructed workshops and online courses, authored the book "Volunteer Management for Animal Care.
• Managed multiple annual campaigns, including the Walk for the Animals and World Spay Day.
• Created and co-managed a national call center in response to Hurricane Katrina that took in more than 40,000 calls regarding animal rescues, donations, pet-family reunions, and more. Managed more than 100 staff.

• Managed campaigns and grant programs to support local animal shelters. Advised professionals in the field of animal care and control on shelter operations and policies.
• Served as the HSUS liaison for Maryland animal care and control agencies. Delivered testimony at state and local hearings, and provided hands-on support in regional animal care and disaster cases.
• Wrote and provided the strategic direction for shelter-related publications, including "Animal Sheltering" magazine, and responded to requests from the media on animal sheltering issues.

• Designed, maintained, and promoted the Companion Animals section's websites for pet owners, professionals in the field of animal sheltering, and policy makers.
• Created and managed "Shelter Pages," the first and only directory of products and services for the animal care and control field, turning a net advertising profit in the first year of publication.
• Researched, wrote, and edited publications and reports.
• Organized and managed a temporary disaster relief animal shelter in Tarboro, North Carolina, caring for more than 230 animals in the aftermath of Hurricane Floyd in September 1999.
