Betsy Payn has worked in a number of different capacities with increasing responsibility over the last 30 years. In her current position, her focus is on program and project management and data organization for the University of Washington School of Medicine, Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences. She is the Program Manager for a series of projects and programs under the Integrated Care Training Program, funded by the State of Washington. This set of programs involve training psychiatric providers in integrated care, which allows psychiatrists and other psychiatric providers to work with primary care providers consulting on patients, so that the PCP can treat some of their patients' behavioral health conditions. This is an evidence-based treatment and will ultimately result in faster access to behavioral health treatment at a lower cost. She works closely with faculty and staff across numerous programs. For example, she oversees the Community Based Integrated Care Fellowship, modeled after an Executive MBA Program, where psychiatric providers already in practice receive training in Integrated Care. There are four components of the 10-month long program, currently in its sixth year, including quarterly in-person meetings, weekly online didactic content, monthly mentoring sessions, and monthly quality improvement meetings. She works closely with the faculty content leads to ensure program success.Prior to that, she worked for Battelle and was responsible for the management of data collection efforts for large, complex studies using web, mail, telephone and field surveying capabilities. Most recently, she was the Project Manager for a project designed to survey Healthcare Providers about their practices regarding vaccination of adults; a study designed to assess the usefulness of an Older Adult Mobility Assessment Toolkit; and she played a key leadership role on a project that collected survey, anthropometric, and community level data for 100 communities across the United States designed to determine best practices for keeping communities healthy. Betsy coordinated the Battelle Seattle Research Center’s annual Adopt-a-Family project through the YWCA for over 10 years, which provided gifts and holiday meals for up to 45 people each December. She was also the Co-Captain for Team Battelle’s Relay for Life event in Seattle, which raised over $20,000 for the American Cancer Society over a two year period.
