Betsy Stecker of Big Mitten Linocuts is a naturalist and printmaker, inspired by the woods, waters and wildlife of Michigan. A blockprinter, she sketches original designs onto linoleum blocks, carves the designs in relief, rolls ink to the carved blocks, and applies pressure to transfer the designs onto paper and textiles. Some prints are embellished with gouache. Betsy prints in limited, numbered editions, and she has won multiple awards for her prints. She is passionate about offering affordable prints and motivating buyers to collect original artworks from living artists. Betsy also owns and curates Forested, a printshop and nature-inspired gift store in the Rust Belt Market in Ferndale.

Big Mitten Linocuts is a small printmaking studio where fine art prints are hand-carved and hand-printed as multiple originals. Prints begin as artist sketches, which are drawn onto a linoleum block, carved in relief, inked, and printed onto heavyweight paper one at a time. Some prints are hand-colored after inking. Prints are then signed and matted in.
