I was Managing Editor of The Observer, a twice-weekly publication in Rio Rancho, New Mexico that thrived editorially under my direction. The newspaper won 19 editorial awards during my tenure.I was responsible for a redesign of the newspaper in 2005 and for the Web site, which I maintained and updated.I was part of a strategic planning team/implementation process.I implemented and oversaw a reader focus group. I supervised five reporters, a photographer and college interns as well as several freelance and contributing writers. I was also responsible for content, layout and design, as well as writing news stories, columns and editorials, editing and assigning news stories and features.
