Master thesis: Control of Platooning VehiclesIn this research the combined longitudinal and lateral control of platooning vehicles was investigated, with a special focus on preventing vehicles from cutting corners when following their predecessor. The proposed solution extents the theoretical path based controller design towards a real-time controller. This has been investigated by means of simulations, as well as within an experimental environment (e-puck mobile robots), which both confirmed that the proposed control solution is valid.

Quadrotors are small aerial vehicles propelled by four rotors and commonly used as unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). This research investigates the control problem of a quadrotor UAV experiencing partial or complete rotor failure. A proportional–integral–derivative controller is developed using autotuner to stabilize the aerial vehicle and perform a certain trajectory. Further, this control strategy is compared to a model predictive control strategy which has the advantage of dealing with contraints. Both control strategies sacrifies the control on the yaw angle to stabilize the roll and pitch angles after which the quadrotor UAV with rotor failure can perform a safe landing. Simulation performance are compared in terms of advantages and limitations of these two control algorithms with application to the quadrotor UAV.

As a tutor, you have a number of different roles and tasks in the coaching and supervision of first,second or third year students of Mechanical Engineering who work in DBL groups on a design assignment. This requires tutors skills, insight in the engineering design assignment and a good preparation for the project coaching.
