As a member of the senior management team I was an integral part of all strategic discussions and decisions providing support to the CEO and other senior managers. As CFO I was required to prepare and present the information to the shareholders, banks and other stakeholders in the business.Responsibilities as CFO included the finance functions for the Canadian parent company as well as the US, UK and Australian branches. I managed the creation of a Spanish and Australian branch for TCT and ensured that the foreign entities were compliant with all local accounting, tax and other legal requirements.As CFO I was responsible for all aspects of the day to day financial matters; financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, tax and treasury, and one of the first challenges upon joining TCT was to reorganise the finance function into a reliable service provider for the rest of the business. I achieved this significant change in culture with a great deal of mentoring and patience, and now the current TCT finance group provide timely, reliable information to all stakeholders and are trusted and respected by the entire business. I took great pride in the fact that the external auditor (KPMG) and internal auditors from the parent companies could rarely identify any areas within the finance group that were cause for concern and were always very satisfied with the control environment and processes that I put in place within the organisation. Another significant achievement upon joining TCT was to provide guidance on the management of the balance sheet. The use of capital was extremely inefficient, however after I conducted a programme of education at all levels within the organisation, major improvements were achieved and borrowings reduced accordingly.
