Cast Stone, is without doubt, “the most refined architectural simulated stone feature manufactured to this very day”. Cast Stone is a cementitious based masonry product, used in features all over the world and has finally arrived in South Africa. Cast Stone is made to blend with any texture simulating sandstone, cut sandstone, limestone, cut limestone, granite, or travertine in natural stone colours and blends. (According to UK Cast Stone Institute)The earliest known use of Cast Stone dates about to the year 1138 and was seen at Carcassonne, France, the Cité which contains the finest remains of medieval fortification in Europe. Cast Stone was first used extensively in London in the year 1900 and gained widespread acceptance in America in 1920. NB: DTNs Cast Stone is NOT concrete poured (cast) into a mould. This form of manufacture is called Pre Cast and should not, for one moment, be confused with Cast Stone. Cast Stone is neither manufactured with any water-based resin binders as this too could be confused with Cast Stone. DTNs Cast Stone, after manufacture, is self-supporting within the first 10 minutes of its cast and reaches 60-70% of its strength within 2-3days. Hence, in the United Kingdom & United States of America, not all things cast is recognised as, Cast Stone.
