Specifically, I investigated the role of the type-1 interferon family of cytokines, in controlling neuroinflammation in Parkinson's disease (PD). Through this research, I identified that type-1 interferons exacerbate neuronal cell death and that therapeutically blocking this proinflammatory response in the brain is beneficial in slowing the progression of PD.Throughout my PhD I presented at multiple local and international neuroscience-specific conferences and was awarded various student prizes for presentations given at these meetings.Much of my work conducted within this PhD project has been published in quality peer-reviewed scientific journals. This research was funded through competitive scholarships obtained through Australian Rotary Health and their Parkinson's research scholarship program. Show less -
