I hold an MSc (Botany) completed in 2013. The study was part of the multi-national, multi-disciplinary Agulhas and Somali Current Large Marine Ecosystems (ASCLME) project implemented by the United Nations Development Programme. During my time at university I qualified as a Class IV Scientific Diver, sampling and undertaking maintenance for various institutes along the Eastern Cape coast of South Africa. During my time at university I also managed the Roxy Learn to Surf programme.I have three years` experience as an environmental consultant in South Africa. I was employed to undertake Basic Assessment Reports; audit and monitor compliance according to construction environmental management plans and conditions of environmental authorisations as an environmental control officer (ECO); collate and submit applications for water use (including construction, drilling and surface/ground water extraction permits) and waste licences as per the National Water Act and National Environmental Management: Waste Act of South Africa. As an environmental consultant it was my responsibility to work independently as part of a small team at Terreco Environmental cc. One of my appointments as an ECO was on the Proposed Refurbishment of Eastern Beach Sewers Upgrade and Back-up Rising Main, East London. I produced weekly compliance reports in accordance to the conditions of authorisation. As an ECO I was on 24hr call for the duration of the refurbishment to respond to any pollution incidence on site. I travelled regularly to various sites to undertake compliance inspections within the Eastern Cape. Construction sites ranging from road upgrades, hospital upgrades, police station upgrades and new developments.In 2013 I worked as a scientific diver for Nature Seychelles on a large-scale coral reef rehabilitation project. My duties included maintenance of coral nurseries and collection of coral nubbins, following specific maintenance and sampling methods. Additional duties included gear maintenance and data entry.I completed a Post Graduate Certificate in Education at Rhodes University, South Africa in 2015, and have been a middle school classroom teacher in Australia since 2016. I currently manage an Aquaculture Learning Centre at Essington, teaching marine science, aquaculture and various other subjects.I am an avid cyclist, surfer, kite surfer and community cricket coach.
