Engaging the public in the work of the Woodland Trust by developing their interest in wildlife. At the project’s core is the monitoring and recording by the public of the signs of seasonal change which is governed by a set of defined phenological events ranging from bud burst in spring to leaf tint in autumn. A dedicated network of volunteers seek out these significant signs each season, and contribute their findings to the UKPN (UK Phenology Network) database. With historic records stretching backing to 1736, the database has built up an amazing 3 million records and is the Trust’s one claim to being the ‘world’s biggest. The Woodland Trust is custodian of the UKPN and responsible for its day to day management. I developed Nature’s Calendar web presence to attract a wider public to the Trust and its work along with devising a communications plan to engage more adults, translating these into meaningful relationships. Developed online content in support of other major projects and created inspiring enewsletters & biannual paper newsletters. I have an interest in developing seasonal stories and giving everyone access to nature, along with identifying new opportunities. I wrote blogs and developed nature content for the BBC including Springwatch and Weatherview and increased the number of regular recorders involved with Nature's Calendar. Line managed project staff, managed project budget, and overseen financial planning and reporting. Show less -
