Working passionately towards my goal to advance human health technology through curiosity, rigor, and interdisciplinary collaboration.I completed my PhD in Computational Neuroscience at Boston University while conducting research in the Lewis Lab at Massachusetts Institute of Technology. During my PhD, I discovered specific brain dynamics underlying transitions between sleep and wakefulness by applying advanced, multimodal neuroimaging techniques and complex quantitative analyses. My research in the Lewis Lab and with Nancy Kopell focuses on human arousal-state transitions. I'm trying to answer questions like: what whole brain network activity occurs at arousal from sleep? and what mechanisms underly the brain activity seen under anesthesia?

In the Meitzen lab, I analyzed whether modulation of the L-type calcium channel by Estrogen could explain the increased excitation seen in female rats in the nucleus accumbens. Additionally, I helped to collect data to test the hypothesis that during phases of higher estrogen, medium spiny neurons in the rat nuclues accumbens core have more spines.
