Virginia Women Veterans Program Manager (Vwvp)
CurrentIntroducing Virginia's new program that will be full time devoted to the needs of Virginia's women veterans. This program began with various local initiatives in early 2011. With increased focus, local non profit support, and community partnership, Virginia's women veterans had an opportunity to celebrate HER service while re-connecting at the first Summit in Jan 2014. It was then the need surfaced, was seen, and began to grow. By 2017, it was apparent Virginia's women veterans needed more than just being reached annually. Governor Northam's administration took bold steps to meet the unique needs of these veterans. Virginia had it's first Virginia Women Veterans Week celebration in Mar 2018. And as of September 2018, Virginia has their first full time Program Manager to amplify the voices and support the needs of the Commonwealth's military SHEROES. #VirginiaWomenVetsLeadTheWay!
Military Medics And Corpsman Program
Military medics and corpsmen receive extensive and valuable healthcare training while on active duty. When they transition to civilian life, their military healthcare experiences may not easily translate into comparable certifications/ licenses required for civilian healthcare jobs. As a result, many veteran medics and corpsmen are unemployed or cannot apply their skills in civilian healthcare jobs. This pioneering program is the pathway to employment, education and empowerment. Bottom line Focus: Careers, Continuing Education, and Credentialing.Program Goals:Work with Virginia healthcare employers to explore ways they can hire highly-skilled military medics and corpsmen before they have received a recognized civilian credential Help fill workforce gaps for employers and keep veterans’ clinical skills up to date Allow Virginia employers to recruit motivated employees from an unlimited pipeline of medics and corpsmen who transition out of the military every year, many of whom will go on to become licensed healthcare professionals Positive Impacts Virginia is the first state to offer this kind of innovative pathway for this subset of highly-skilled veterans Likely to draw even more veterans to Virginia since it provides immediate employment Creates a path to employability and helps build the healthcare workforce of the future as well as meet current employment challenges Conclusion Healthcare is the fastest growing employment sector. Medics and corpsmen have extremely relevant, real-world experience from their extensive military education and training. They can help fill many gaps in healthcare workforce needs. For more information on the program, please contact: Virginia Department of Veterans Services (VDVS) (804) 482-8508 or mmac@dvs.virginia.govhttps://www.choose.va.gov/#StarSpangledGirl realization and initial Brand Discovery
