I try to live out those values now both at work and in my personal life. As a trial lawyer, I try to get to know each of my clients personally so I can understand their injuries and legal issues, and the effect of these on them and their loved ones. This helps me work toward the best possible legal solution for each client whether I argue with insurance companies to make sure my clients get a fair settlement before going to court, or take their cases to trial. On a personal level, I have volunteered for a number of organizations that have helped my clients, including the local free legal clinic, a homeless shelter, and a treatment alternative program. I currently chair the Eau Claire County Democratic party, serve on Eau Claire’s Revolving Loan Committee (which provides low interest loans to start ups and small businesses to help them grow) and help several groups that are working to get art into the community. My husband and I have a dog, a black lab named Artie, who comes to the office with me and is training to provide comfort to clients who are in stressful situations.I hope that, when the time comes for me to look back on my life, I can say I made a positive difference in the lives of my clients, my colleagues and my community, and did my part in the struggle to make fairness, equality and justice a reality for everyone.
