I am a passionate and driven first-year student studying the Bachelor of Medical Science with provisional entry into the Doctor of Medicine at Griffith University. My passion for medicine stems from my desire for life-long learning and being able to give back to the community by providing quality patient care. Having been privileged enough to travel to India frequently and having seen the inequities entrenched in the healthcare system there, I hope to play a part in making healthcare more accessible in remote regions in India and Australia as a future medical practitioner.As a motivated student undergoing an accelerated degree (GPA 7.0), as well as a private tutor and retail worker, I’ve developed the skills of time-management, resilience and organisation which are fundamental to reaching my future career goals. Collaborating with my peers for projects and working in a fast-paced retail environment with a dynamic team has allowed me to develop the skills of leadership, communication and collaboration. The empathy, patience and tact needed to deliver quality customer service are skills that are transferrable to a healthcare setting when providing quality patient care.As an aspiring medical practitioner, I hope to conduct clinical research while practicing medicine to further my learning. In trimester 3, I will be assisting the cancer molecular pathology research team at Griffith University’s School of Medicine and Dentistry in their research into circulating tumour cells and their isolation in colorectal cancer patients. The skills I have ascertained from studying Statistics 1014SCG (collecting, organising, analysing and communicating complex information) and my previous laboratory experiences are highly applicable to this research.
