Full Stack Developer
CurrentAn ERP software solution aiming to modernize as a web based SaaS following the MERN stack. My role focuses on low level design including anything technical, data structure improvements, writing and implementation of code, and deploying cloud servers.● Writing React code, refactoring code base to redux, and designing Material UI / DevExpress components to meet client and project needs.● Writing, refactoring, and designing Express.js API routes to securely and efficiently move data between the UI and database.● Automating both cloud website and server deployments with Bitbucket; utilizing Jenkins as an alternative. This freed up the team from manual deployments, and allowed regular testing.● Prototyping, and implementing initial user roles, and permissions. This allowed control over what pages and components the user can read, write, or be booted from.● Administration of our software stack, maintenance of cloud and local work environments, and documentation including architecture, proposals, how-to guides, and progress tracking.
Software Developer (Vrs)
Video Recognition Software (VRS) developer. Utilized AI/ML to detect incidents and anomalies in real time with the use of IP Camera's.● Frontend Security DashboardRewrote EhEye’s initial ‘Security Dashboard’ with more proper practice. Using Angular and NPM as the package manager, I wrote two primary pages; the dashboard to view anomalies and threats (active shooters) in real time, and one for configuring PoE IP Cameras. Being one of many platform services, I had it dockerized and readily available for deployment.● Red Hat KickstartDeveloped a custom CentOS operating system that automated and deployed the company microservice platform. This drastically cut down on software deployment errors and took roughly 2-4 hours to install over a physical media device. Installation, both attended and unattended, functioned like any operating system install, but with the company's business logic. Upon installation, the server allowed end-users to access various services by IP and port such as the security dashboard and logging services when signed in.● Systems & NetworkingContinued managing our local server room consisting of 4+ servers, 1 or more PoE switches, 15+ PoE IP devices (cameras, VoIP), and worked with our Network Admin to deploy a virtualized network (ESXI, pfSense), and occasional VPN troubleshooting. This was kept documented on confluence with 20+ remote access IPs, hardware faults and where each device was located.● Data ScienceData creation for AI training which consisted over a few terabytes of data, exploring AI trends with data scientists, and improvements to the live demo running state of the art Detectron.
Software Developer
"AI" Inc, a startup company specializing in public safety and video surveillance using analytics and artificial intelligence. My first role as a software developer.● Startup Experience From growth, failure, and eventually a successful acquisition; I took part in building a company from the ground up. I was involved in business and investor meetings, development, product demonstrations, planning with mentors, and learning all about a company's growing pains.● Initial footholdAs an intern, dove into learning basic Python, OpenCV, creating AI/ML training data consisting of 100k images & annotations to begin, advancing Linux skills, and working with the Darknet neural network.● Frontend Security DashboardBegan the initial user interface as pure JavaScript which ended up being a bit of a mess. Serving as an initial concept, the UI would listen in real time using faye pub/sub. With bash, alerts were simulated by user input (e.g. the type, and description.), which was received as JSON on the UI. This data was displayed in a table, along with hard coded images of the event left of the table. This quickly evolved with the use of an express API, and PoE IP cameras for real world data. This was all taped together until a rewrite after an acquisition.● LinuxQuickly adapted Linux as it handled more complex development environments better. Created a key live demo with Linux and Docker to showcase the teams first stable AI model for image processing. The host machine would show the user on screen and weapons detected with a bounding box through TightVNC (later X11). This live demo that ran from a single scripted Linux command assisted with the acquisition of EhEye.● Servers & NetworksFirst exposure handling servers and LAN connectivity for PoE IP camera configurations which was vital to our software, testing, and utilizing routers for portable live demos to run the software and a camera without internet.
Infantry Soldier
Infantry Soldiers are the Army’s primary combat fighters and are responsible for closing with and engaging the enemy.● SoldierDeveloped, practiced, and maintained high standards with respect to the ethos and ethics of the Canadian Armed Forces. Expertly operated and maintained a wide range of weapons in high stress situations both offensively and defensively, conducted field training, passed regular qualification tests and certifications, and obtained a professional drivers license (Class 3 provincially).● AdministrationExposure to Security Level paperwork, common military documents, and general tracking of documents for accountability. Frequently worked as a duty driver or supporting staff transporting such documents, troops, and any other company needs.● ReliabilitySigned, tracked, and accounted for serialized weapons, kit, and equipment. Often dealt with extreme time constraints under sleep deprivation to keep soldiers supplied with food, equipment and field needs.● LeadershipHelped maintain morale, practiced drills as a section with opportunities to walk and talk or lead activities, and tasking lower ranking soldiers. Primary leadership course was not prioritized during my stay, however, basic initiative was required as a senior corporal when decisions needed to be made. I led by example when on the job and kept superiors informed.
