Profile bio

About Brian Francoise

When I was 16, two experiences shaped my sense of self and future career choices: I coached kids to develop better strokes in competitive swimming; and, I played Jesus in a production of Godspell. Like then, I facilitate learning and make art -- especially art at the intersection of social justice and community development. With a rich background in higher education, I have deep experience in community engaged scholarship. I am interested in the ethics and best practices of "anchor institutions" that aspire to partner with (not colonize) schools, residents and community leaders. I love to manage projects, frame the creativity of others and create communities of action with networks, neighborhoods, youth, and elders. I’ve witnessed first hand how authentic relationships transform communities and the individual's sense of empowered self. The main purpose of the arts should be to foster civic engagement and participatory democracy.I can adroitly don a non-profit administrator hat as well. During the last decade, I've been steeped in arts management practices that look at the challenges of philanthropy, board development, marketing and communication, and community engagement. I am a skilled facilitator for organizational needs ranging from strategic planning to "diversity, equity, inclusion" training. My artistic practice guides my approach to collaboration in the administrative space. I'm a creative problem solver, researcher, exceptional writer and communicator. I look for critical connections between seemingly disparate disciplines. I look to mine the precious resource of what organizers call "people power." My leadership style begs the question: What kind of culture do we want to foster in our team? I am inquiry led in my practice. I bound towards learning curves fearlessly. I unflinchingly embrace conversations in the arts and higher education around questions of gender, race, privilege and power.Specialties: STEAM enrichment for family and youth development, Public engagement in the arts, non-profit management, emergent strategy, racial equity training, workshop facilitation and training, wellness practices.

Listed skills include Theatre, Teaching, Nonprofits, Acting, and 9 others.
