About Bob Free

As Founder and VP of Engineering at Graphcomp, I develop algorithms that enable computers to understand what they are seeing, and I help startups build new engineering teams involving 3D imaging and computer vision.I've been developing 3D algorithms/systems since 1972, computer vision since 1986, scalable media systems since 1995, IoT devices since 2005, and 3D computer vision mobile apps since 2008.While I continue to have extensive hands-on, cross-platform development experience - my primary value to a startup is in building multi-discipline engineering teams, from 0-50.During the 80s, I developed new color spaces tuned for ethnically-neutral recognization of skin tones. In the 90s, I developed secure/scalable media services and IoT devices that filtered porn, and provided visual scoring/searching for similar images/videos. Since then, I've developed computer vision algorithms for recognizing contexts/shapes/faces in images/videos.While at Apple, I drove face recognition technologies, and have been granted 14 patents related to my computer vision research there. In 2014, I created a 3D medical imaging system that converts 2D grayscale CT/MRI scans into real-time/interactive 3D segmented color models. At Naked Labs, I designed/wrote 100% of our Node IoT server system and 3D mobile code - resulting in a fully functional prototype that led to our Series A funding. At Bellus3D, we created a photo-realistic 3D face/head scanner. I designed/built the Node IoT device that controlled up to 9 wireless depth cameras, and wrote all the networking code for our android-based depth cameras. As VP of Engineering at AEMass, we're focused on solving complex computer vision problems, to capture and help understand the world around us.In my "spare" time, I've conceived/self-funded/developed/launched VizCat - a Cloud/Mobile-based system for event organizers to scan/verify covid vaccination QR Codes (SMART/GreenPass/VDS) and provide contact tracing.
