Mechanical Design Engineer
CurrentIn the automotive industry, a BIW Engineer is a specific position who focuses on the design, development, and engineering of the body in white which includes all structural areas that will be done prior to painting and assembly. This is an important position as it's responsible for ensuring the safety, strength, and performance of the vehicle.Key Responsibilities:Design and Development:Plan and develop the frame of the vehicle and body sub-assemblies including features such as doors, bonnets, roofs, pillars, etc. Check for compliance of the designs with safety, crashworthiness, and manufacturability. Address weight, stiffness, and cost-effective measures in the designs. Work with people from other departments (styling, engineering, manufacturing, etc.) to deliver an integrated design. Structural Analysis: Perform structural analysis and simulations to evaluate strength and rigidity as well as crashworthiness of the vehicle.Determine the shortcomings of the design and the additional changes that can be made to the design to improve the performance.Check the faith of the design in the tests and simulations.Manufacturing Process: Propose and improve the manufacturing technologies of the BIW components stamping, welding, and assembly in particular. Cooperate with manufacturing engineers for the smooth running of production and minimization of defects. Engage suppliers to procure materials and components of standards. Quality Assurance: Ensure the effectiveness of quality followed by the manufacturers tightening it with measures.
