I am a 4th Year Chemical Engineering PhD candidate working in the Particulate Process & Product Design Research Group led by Dr. Heather Emady.My primary PhD project is focused on experimental Granular Heat Transfer in a Rotary Drum via Radiation and Conduction & 3D-DEM Analysis of Segregation Effects on Granular Heat Transfer in a Rotary Drum.Granular Heat Transfer:• Focusing on experimentally understanding combined granular heating via radiation and conduction inside a rotary drum and develop DEM models for accurate simulations.• Conducting experimental investigations to comprehensively understand the combined granular heating mechanisms involving radiation and conduction within a rotary drum, alongside the development of accurate DEM models for simulation purposes.• Systematically analyzing the influence of key process parameters such as fill level, rotation rate, and particle size on heat transfer dynamics within a rotary drum operating under rolling regime conditions.Segregation Studies:• Conducting 3D DEM studies utilizing Altair EDEM software to analyze granular dynamics and heat transfer phenomena within the rotary drum.• Investigating the influence of segregation phenomena on heat transfer dynamics within the rotary drum configuration, assessing its implications on process efficiency and product quality.• Quantifying the degree of particle bed segregation using MATLAB and Altair analysis tools, providing insights into granular behavior, and informing process optimization strategies.Industrial Academic Project funded by Applied Materials:• Analyzed settling and flowability of different powders and particle size distributions in various systems and valves.• Upgraded the design of a heating vessel to reduce conduction heating time by 40%.• Automated valve design through simulations for delivering powders in the system.I have also worked as a Graduate Teaching Associate for ChE 352, 451 (Chemical Engineering Lab I & II) and 544 (Chemical Reactor Engineering).From 2017 - 18, I worked at Institute of Chemical Technology, Mumbai as a Research Associate under Dr. Bhaskar Thorat in the Advanced Drying Lab – I worked on projects of Drying of Algae using a solar conduction dryer & other drying equipment, Literature Review on Manufacture of PU with Lignin to reduce the dependence on non renewable reactants & using PU as Flame Retardant.I aspire to work in the field of R&D, Innovation, & Teaching. My focus lies in Particles & Materials, Process & Equipment Design, Cost Analysis, & Energy Efficiency.
