Parameter-Efficient Finetuning of Large Language Models for Text GenerationUnder the mentorship of Pramit Saha, I worked on a research project focused on parameter-efficient finetuning of large language models (LLMs) like GPT for text generation. The goal was to adapt pre-trained LLMs to specific tasks with minimal computational overheads using methods such as low-rank adaptation (LoRA), adapter layers, and prompt tuning. We integrated these techniques into the GPT architecture, optimizing model performance while reducing trainable parameters and computational costs. Our approach involved extensive experimentation on benchmark datasets to evaluate the effectiveness of these strategies. The project resulted in significant improvements in text generation quality and efficiency, demonstrating the feasibility of parameter-efficient finetuning for practical applications. This experience through Forethought India, enhanced my expertise in advanced NLP techniques and contributed valuable insights into efficient model adaptation, emphasizing the balance between performance and computational resource utilization.
