Building on TUTs achievements to date and responsible for the strategic leadership and management of the University’s continuing digital transformation agenda; developing the vision and leading on implementing a transformation plan to deliver the University’s strategic goals, leading the process of defining, differentiating, and shaping the institution during its next exciting phase of development in this area. Responsible for the Digital and Technical Services function, Transformation and driving the “Smart Campus”, the strategy will lead transformative action across the University to deliver digitally enabled, streamlined ways of working, leading to service improvement, customer experience and financial efficiency.

The chief administrative officer of the Faculty, playing a pivotal role in setting the strategic direction for the Faculty, responsible for oversight and direction of teaching, research, and outreach, including relations with the external professional community. Responsible for articulating a vision for engineering education and exert leadership in the development, implementation, growth, and expansion of disciplinary and interdisciplinary opportunities in both undergraduate and graduate programs. Providing academic, research, outreach, and fiscal leadership to the Faculty. Key participants in external relations of the university, including fundraising, alumni relations, economic development, legislative priorities (national and provincial), and public relations.

• Research Leadership:Responsible for: Leading and managing the development and implementation of the Institute's research strategy, performance indicators and targets and the alignment of these with those of the University; Efficient management and operation of the Institute in the delivery of its strategy. Ensuring compliance with relevant legislation and University policy about workplace health and safety, risk management, and ethical practice, line management of staff employed in the Institute, the mentoring of new employees where appropriate, the provision of an intellectually stimulating environment for staff and research students; and  Developing and implementing Institute policies concerning the provision of support for research students and staff who are members of the Institute.• Engagement:Responsible for: Developing the profile of the Institute and the University, through representation, engagement and the development of strong linkages with professional, industry and community groups relevant to the Institute's activities and engagement strategy.• Management:Responsible for: Providing high-level strategic leadership and administration of the resources and facilities of the Institute including: o administration of the Institute budget in support of the strategic aims of the Institute; and  In collaboration with the Research Program Directors, oversee and support grant applications and acquisition for both internal and external funding of research within the Institute  Providing leadership in areas such as:o equity and diversity; o a healthy and safe work environment;o student and staff development; and o fair and ethical business practices. Representing the Institute, where appropriate, to the wider community, including related professions, industries and government agencies.  Maintaining an active research program and international standing in their field.

RESEARCH: Acting as an evangelist for Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Data Science. Evangelizing University of South Africa’s AI approach to engineering, mining and science research (especially in areas that are synergistic or complementary with the interests of the Faculty; Carrying out scientific research and active in acquisition of external research funding; Participating in activities related to the university representation, scientific divulgation and knowledge transfer to society; Spearheading the launch of new research projects, both fundamental research as well as research in collaboration with government and industry, and to raise funds for these;  Supervision of students at all levels (Bachelor, Master, PhD); and Carrying out other regular activities as a Faculty member.TEACHING & LEARNING Teaching assignment including both general undergraduate courses in Computer Science as well as specialized research-oriented masters and doctorate courses in the data science track, including Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, and Natural Language Processing as well as other Computer Science courses as needed; Mentor/Guide students in their intellectual and professional development; Ensuring that the department’s course offerings and priorities remain state-of-the-art and aligned with requirements, expectations, and applications of industry and research in the area of AI and data science. Further the state-of-the-art in AI and Data Science via research open source contributions. Allocation of duties to departmental staff to ensure the efficient performance of the department's teaching, research, research education and service functions; and Monitoring the academic and service activities of the department, including, education and assessment practices, post-graduate

Working on a project titled ‘Data Imputation Techniques for Software Engineering’.• Developing statistical software engineering methodology and/or existing methods in novel and creative ways to meet the project’s research objectives; implementing this methodology.• Designing, developing and testing software tool that classifies a dataset and identifies appropriate imputation procedures.• Developing a classification scheme for software engineering project datasets.• Publishing results in the scientific literature, with a focus on software engineering journals and conferences.• Collaborating with members of the project team, and others, to ensure that the statistical software engineering research is appropriate for the planned areas of application.• Planning workshops for reporting research results and determining and recommending future research directions and further contributing to the research activities of other project members.

Working on a project titled ‘Accelerating the Education Sector Response to HIV/AIDS in Africa in the context of EFA.” – which are addressing the impact of HIV/AIDS on education systems in developing countries.• Responsible for modelling (projecting) the impact of HIV/AIDS on the education systems in developing countries to estimate epidemic trends, based on sentinel surveillance data from pregnant women (including presentation of preliminary estimates by participating countries). • focussing on the impact that HIV/ADIS has on number of teachers, their HIV prevalence and deaths due to AIDS to be projected into the future (the supply for education); • focussing on the impact of HIV/AIDS on the size and characteristics of the school-age population in a given country (the demand for education).• Responsible for the collection of country specific data and manipulation of this data within an HIV/AIDS impact projection mathematical model.• Ensuring that up-to-date epidemiological data are adequately utilized in country strategic planning processes.• Develop and deliver scientific presentations, reference materials, and speeches, as requested on HIV/AIDS epidemiology and/or modelling and related subjects for information, advocacy, and coordination purposes.

Working on a project titled ‘Estimation of contact rates and threshold parameters for infectious diseases from serological survey data’.• Developing mathematical and computational models of chicken pox disease mechanisms using appropriate approaches and leveraging Open University's collaboration partners.• Developing hypotheses for chicken pox mechanisms based on the analysis of experimental data in the context of existing scientific knowledge.• Responsible for modelling chicken pox data, to extend existing methods by incorporating the effect of changing contact rates over time.• Using mathematical models to interpret this serological data and determine whether increasing susceptibility is sufficient to allow resurgence of disease from low levels.• Examining the sensitivity of important epidemiology parameter estimates, such as the average age earlier models.
