In 2011 I decided to join the Army as a Combat Medic right out of high school. My goal was to travel the world and pursue higher education without the fear of debt. I’ve always been interested in the medical field and being a medic has given me the opportunity to experience medicine in a hospital and combat setting. Enlisting in the Army out of Boston, MA and going to San Antonio, TX for my training was an adjustment but the weather made up for it! I have been stationed in Fort Bliss (El Paso, TX), Fort Cavasos (previously Fort Hood in Killeen, TX), and Fort Liberty (previously Fort Bragg in Fayetteville, NC). My favorite assignment by far was in 2015-2017 when I was stationed in Fort Cavasos. In Fort Cavasos I worked as an Emergency Medical Care NCO in Carl R. Darnall Army Medical Center in the Emergency Department. There I was able to work closely with nurses, doctors, and medical professionals of all walks of life. During that time I was able to really soak up all their medical knowledge and listen to their Army Story and their “why” for joining the Army as a medical officer. I hope that on this current assignment as a healthcare recruiter I can connect with individuals pursuing a medical career and help bring their “why” and dreams to fruition!
