As part of the Strategic Communications Branch of Queensland Health, my primary function involves the development and management of communications content for Public Health Directions. This role also involves the provision of strategic communications advice and execution of communications support for a variety of corporate projects, as well as leading the Communications external stakeholder liaison function including distribution of state-wide campaigns.

As part of the Strategy and Engagement division, my role centred around the large number of engagement and communication activities undertaken by QRA. As the communications lead in the Inter-Agency Planning Group, my key responsibility was to manage the development and delivery of the State Recovery Plan for the North and Far North Queensland Monsoon Trough disaster.

As the sole Communications Officer for a term project, my focus was to develop, manage and execute strategic communications and marketing campaigns to assist the department in gaining White Ribbon Australia Workplace Accreditation. A key achievement in my role was the execution of the inaugural White Ribbon Day campaign Coffee for a cause; from original concept through to development, implementation, management and evaluation.

As a manager of two Communications Officers, I was responsible for leading our team to plan, develop and manage the execution of strategic marketing, communications and media for Queensland Sport and Recreation clients (including the Ministerial Office).

Since establishment, my role extended from day to day execution of a multi-faceted business operation through to the ultimate responsibility for the company’s overall performance.

Managing brands including Flight Centre (Student Flights & Travel Expo), Griffith University and Brisbane Festival, I developed large-scale strategic media plans with innovative communication solutions; selecting media channels that increased effectiveness and amplified the creative idea to surprise and delight the client – ultimately delivering on all objectives.

As Account Manager progressing to Account Director, I worked with a vast array of key clients to identify, develop and communicate their brand while ensuring all campaign and project requirements were achieved on time and within budget. My role included creative marketing development to strategically engage in media planning and buying across all platforms such as digital, television, radio, outdoor, print and promotion. Further responsibilities included direct, event, print and production management within strategic campaign execution.

Throughout my role for the Department (Natural Resources, Mines, Energy and Water Supply) I developed, implemented and evaluated strategic marketing communication activities that contributed to corporate outcomes for the State. Within a demanding environment, I ensured communications goals were achieved within identified deadlines, budget outcomes were client focused and working relationships were mutually beneficial.

In this role I provided strategic marketing direction and coordination by supporting the delivery of the corporate marketing and business line plans across the UK business (both London and regions) enabling the organisation to enhance its reputation, win market share and build and maintain profitable client relationships.

Engaged under a short-term contract, my key achievements included the development and sole management of the social media campaign for Solar Power UK – the world’s largest UK-dedicated solar event in 2011. Publication of news articles, press releases and case studies on a daily basis for Solar Media Portal and PV Tech as well as client relationship management with key stakeholders for Solar Media’s publication, Solar Business Focus.

As the sole marketing communications officer (previously a team of 10) for the Queensland Water Commission, I was responsible for the creation and management of a variety of State-wide marketing and communication activities including events, strategic marketing plans, national CEO presentations, seasonal campaigns, publications, advertising, printed collateral, online content, policies and procedures, scripting, and stakeholder engagement. As well as reporting directly to the CEO and Directors of QWC, I frequently liaised with key stakeholders to nurture internal and external relationships. I managed accounts, collateral, distribution logistics, invoicing and contractor liaison as well as providing communications services to Government business areas including Sponsorship of Events, Terms of Reference, Public Notices and Ministerial correspondence (speeches, letters and briefing notes).

Starting on a short-term contract, I primarily held a Communications role with a period of time as a Media officer. As a testament to my work performance I successfully gained a permanent position as a Senior Communications Officer in the Department (Employment, Economic Development and Innovation). Key achievements include communications for the Shanghai World Expo 2010, Marine Innovation Conference and State-wide Newspapers.
