Bibiana Rius Email and Phone Number
As a highly capable and creative biochemist and organism biologist, I possess expertise in protein aggregation, stress-signaling pathways, and inflammation. With a solid background in both "in vivo" and mammalian tissue culture I have developed a range of functional cell-based assays. My research fellowships, awards, and scientific publications have honed my communication and interpersonal skills. Currently, I am a Scientist at Elsie Biotechnologies where I contribute to identifying novel oligonucleotide therapeutics and conduct research on efficacy and safety. In the future, I hope to continue leading projects, developing innovative research approaches and mentoring others. Outside of work, I enjoy fitness, beach volleyball, traveling and spending time with my feline companion.

Postdoctoral ResearcherThe Scripps Research Institute Apr 2017 - Jun 2022Greater San Diego AreaLead two distinct research projects, one focused on small molecule IRE1/XBP1s-induced remodeling of the liver transcriptome in models of NAFLD/NASH and fibrosis and second focused on unraveling the role of ER proteostasis pathways responsible for ATF6-related reductions in amyloidogenic LC secretion (blood cancer) by using small molecules that target the UPR. -
Phd StudentHospital Clínic Of Barcelona May 2010 - Feb 2017Role of SPMs in metabolic disorders. Lead two projects to study the in vitro and in vivo role of the specialized pro-resolving mediators (SPMs) RvD1 and MaR1, derived from the polyunsaturated fatty acid DHA, in inflammation and ER stress involved in obesity-associated non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). I also participated closely in a lot of other “in vivo” and “in vitro” projects related to metabolic disease.

InternshipThe Scripps Research Institute May 2016 - Aug 2016San DiegoParticipated in a project that showed that ER stress significantly increases the amount of amyloidogenic TTR variants secreted from mammalian cells in non-native conformations that assembly into toxic oligomers.
