The Barangay Integrated Development Approach for Nutrition Improvement is a community-based participatory integrated development strategy aimed at improving governance and strengthening food and nutrition security of the Philippine’s villages.The Institute of Human Nutrition and Food (IHNF) of the College of Human Ecology at the University of the Philippines Los Baños conceptualized, developed and implemented BIDANI in 1978.With its successful implementation in Laguna and nearby areas during its early project phase, State Universities and Colleges (SUCs) adapted BIDANI as their very own extension programs, in partnership with Local Government Units (LGUs), and working with IHNF as lead institution in the network.In 1990-2000, the Netherlands Government Directorate for Development Cooperation (DGIS) provided a 10-year bilateral assistance grant of 103.5 million to strengthen and institutionalize the Network program of the SUCs in partnership with Local Government Units. Likewise, the Philippine Government, through the SUCs, continuously provide funds to realize the vision and mission of the BIDANI Network Program because of its exemplary contributions in promoting a healthy and productive citizenry.
