I have more than four years of experience serving people with intellectual disabilities at the Association for Individual Development. I supervise staff and work directly with clients. I’m passionate about addressing inequality and inequity and advocate on behalf of my clients within institutions of power and a world that was not design for disable body individuals. I’m a consultant for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion for the DeEtta Jones & Associates, an organization challenging DEI locally and globally. I advise advertising clients on strategies for equity and inclusion in their marketing.Since finishing my college days in Brazil with a Bachelors’ degree in Social Sciences, I have adjusted to life in United States. During those first four years in the United States, I was definitely concerned about adapting to my new life in my adopted country. I was going to seek a career in my field being an emerging English speaker. However, I never abandoned the dream of working in the field of Social Sciences. Because of this, I decided to engage in a master’s program in sociology at DePaul University in Chicago which was one of the best decisions of my life. I worked with unprivileged children from the working class back in Brazil in rural areas and within a tailored curriculum to meet their needs. My volunteering experience as a librarian in a non-profit organization was more than just a base level position. I helped many young adults that visited the library to create and to organize their resumes. Back in the year 2000, internet in Brazil was only part of the life of the elite class. At the library, I taught young adults that were job hunting to type and print their own resumes and go to the Career Center and how to portray themselves in a job interview.On a personal note, I change my hair color a lot so don’t be surprised if I look different than the first time we met.
