Bijal Parikh is an architect who exemplifies a harmonious blend of traditional and modern approaches in her work. She entwines the old school values and ethics with the latest technologies and innovations. Post her Master’s in Architecture from Glasgow School of Art, Scotland in 2011 and her internship days with Architect Bijoy Jain, her passion for Sustainability was further reinforced by associating with Ar. Sandeep Shikre while working at Sandeep Shikre Architects. Bijal believes “being sustainable is the primary responsibility as an individual towards the environment and especially Mother Earth.” She is deeply committed to incorporating sustainable practices and innovative design solutions in all the projects she has worked on. Over the 15 years of practice, she has a diverse portfolio of work that includes city-level development projects, high rises to single-unit dwellings. Bijal has been a pivotal part of various committees such as the Manual of Architectural Practice, Manual of Universal Accessibility (ongoing), and updating of IBEEPS and BEE- ECSBC codes for the building envelope chapter. Her continued passion and enthusiasm for sustainable design made her a LEED Green Associate and an IGBC AP, and she was recognised for winning IGL 2021 competition.In 2022, she volunteered at Dharmalaya Institute of Natural Building and Compassionate Living in Himachal Pradesh, where she worked hands-on on various ongoing construction projects and permaculture farming. Her other interests include gardening, trekking, paper-cut art, and graphic design. Her artworks were published by a print studio in Glasgow, Scotland, that sold several copies across the UK.
