Auditing a range of industries across the private and public sector

Managing privately owned properties to let for students and private renting. This could be anything from renovating the property to the preparation of accounts for tax purposes.In addition, the properties need to be in compliance with relevant regulations. For example, some properties need to comply with HMO regulations.Problem solving and critical thinking skills prove to be crucial here because any maintenance issues and any new regulations that need to be adhered to, needs to be done within a specific timeframe. And with multiple properties to maintain, which can be difficult.

As part of the Front Office Control team for trade control, the role revolved around solving issues faced by both the trading floor and our team. The need to be flexible and adaptable was imperative here due to the fast changing environment which trading encompasses.Completing a work driver analysis allowed me to recognise and implement ways to improve the team’s efficiency i.e. producing macros to perform functions which reduced human error and time spent on completing tasks.Learning and then applying advanced excel skills such as: macros, complex formulas and using advanced formatting allowed me to complete some of my projects like the work driver analysis as well as improving team specific tasks. It is also becoming an increasingly important skill as firms are becoming more technologically advanced.Shadowing other departments gave me an in-depth look at the complexity of running one of the world’s leading investment bank. Examples of some departments include: trade control, financial crimes, compliance, trading and sales trading.

Being involved in all aspects of the business showed the influence that each department can have on the business and how they add value.The continuous evolving nature of the automotive industry prompts the business to continuously replenish its stocks in order to stay competitive. This requires a high level of knowledge about the markets and factors which can affect the market.

Responsibilities included: working at the till, assisting and advising customers with products, stock replenishment, maintaining the store’s aesthetics.Built and quickly applied a range of sales techniques to produce lots of sales.Developed interpersonal and communicational skills through interaction with customer of different cultures and ethnicities.

An internship in the Operations department introduced me to the world of banking.Understanding the different issues that the bank may face and how they resolve this. For example, the group project competition involved devising both long-term and short-term solutions to help propel a client’s struggling business. This was more of a consulting role but nonetheless, showed how J.P. Morgan would help a client’s business.The project was presented to a panel of managers and directors who awarded our team 1st prize for both the project and presentation.Built skills such as critical thinking, problem solving and presentation skills which are important in the finance and banking industry.

Assisted teachers and taught Maths to students aged between 13 and 16.Due to the different needs of individual students, the ability to adapt and flex teaching styles was important so that each student understood the mathematical concepts, and then apply this themselves.

Shadowed different medical specialists in various departments.This involved helping nurses and doctors in the treatment of patients, evaluating patients in the outpatients to diagnose symptoms, and meeting with different medical professions to analyse the patient’s recovery.Showed the importance of maintaining professionalism and integrity in workplaces and the effects this can have on different stakeholders. Communication was also important because each patient had to be spoken to in a different manner in order for them to understand the treatment procedure and risks involved with the treatment for example.
