Bilan Aden, M. Ed Email and Phone Number
I co-lead ACHD, a rapidly growing organization that focuses on housing, social services, education, and economic development for the African Diaspora community throughout King County. In just three years, ACHD has welcomed over eight thousand households to receive culturally responsive case management services, distributed over $38 million in rental assistance, built a workforce development program with a 100% job placement success rate, and created a culturally relevant community development portfolio that seeks to permanently interrupt cycles of poverty and displacement for the African Diaspora community. I am actively working to fight against displacement with ACHD’s community development portfolio, by offering holistic small business support and creating accessible paths toward black homeownership. In addition, I am an advocate for the importance of education and its intersection with other equity issues like economic mobility and housing stability. I have built consensus and engagement through my consulting work with the Seattle Public Schools, and have launched quality STEM, technology access, and education programs at ACHD. I work to abolish the use of the word “underserved” in reference to my community. My world revolves around serving the local African Diaspora community, and I serve as a mentor and role model to many young people. In everything I do, I work to fight anti-Blackness and intergenerational poverty and utilize an equity lens at every decision-making table I am at. I work to create sustainable, non-extractive-based wealth systems for BIPOC communities and hope to inspire those around me every day.

Associate DirectorAfrican Community Housing & Development May 2020 - Feb 2024Seattle, Washington, United StatesAs the Associate Director of ACHD, I work to center the voices of those furthest from opportunity. I approach problems from my intersectional perspective as a Black Muslim multilingual immigrant woman, and I seek to approach new issues through a lens of justice, equity, and anti-racism. In our first three years, ACHD has welcomed over eight thousand households to receive culturally responsive case management services, distributed over $38 million in rental assistance, built a workforce development program with a 100% job placement success rate, and created a culturally relevant community development portfolio that seeks to permanently interrupt cycles of poverty and displacement for the African Diaspora community.
