Director Of Connectivity And Applications

Washington, Dc, Us

The purpose of MkConnects was to affect the development of a commercial nationwide broadband network in Macedonia thus creating competition to the incumbent operator which would lower the broadband connectivity and increase its availability.Aleksandar was involved in the development of the proposal which initially won the grant for the implementation of the project. The model which was created in collaboration with ICT and business leaders included an innovative approach which took advantage of all conditions in Macedonia to create a public private partnership with a local ISP and affect the commercial broadband market. He participated in the implementation of a procurement procedure sourcing 545 Internet accounts for customers across the territory of Macedonia which the ISP used as a footprint for the build out of its network coverage. This resulted in the introduction of competition in the ISP sector on a national level, incentivizing the creation of a wireless broadband network across the entire country making Macedonia the "First all Wireless Broadband Country" in the world.Over the course of the project Aleksandar supervised the build-out of the national broadband network, the delivery of services to all 545 customers ensuring compliance with the contract; and he coordinated the activities of the field technical support team who provided technical support to all customers. His work with the subcontractor resulted in the creation of Internet services and the increase of the ISP’s market share. These activities affected the increase of Internet users in Macedonia from 15% to 32% in just two years as well as the drop of commercial connectivity prices by 10x compared to the ones in 2004.He took part as a keynote speaker in numerous conferences promoting Macedonia’s success and the innovative approach used by MkConnects.
